In wind energy plants there are often great displacements between the individual plant parts. For this reason, double cardan couplings are often employed between drive and generator. Double cardan couplings consist of two individual couplings connected to each other via a long shaft or tube section. SGF couplings are distinguished by a high power density and low weight, with the link coupling construction being an advantage especially in maintenance and overhauling. A complete overhaul of the coupling requires no more than changing the individual links, which usually takes place directly on the installed coupling. There is no shifting of heavy plant parts or transporting of heavy replacement parts.
