Slow-Running Y Coupling for Gentle Compensation of the Greatest Radial Displacement
The Y coupling was developed to compensate very large radial displacements of plant parts without creating large reset forces on the corresponding shaft bearings.
The Y coupling is a torsionally flexible coupling which compensates the radial displacements that arise not through distension of the elastic elements but through a displacement of the geometrical arrangement of the individual parts in the interior of the coupling.
The torque is partly transmitted via exterior wire ropes, which means very large torques (> 1,000,000 Nm) can be transmitted. Couplings of this construction are used mostly in low-rotation applications with very high torques, for example in agriculture (sugar cane industry) and mining.
